2024 Student Writing Contest

Information & Guidelines

This is the official page of our Annual Authors of the Flathead Student Writing Contest! This contest is open to any youth grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 in the Flathead Valley. This is a fantastic opportunity for young writers to submit their work to a respected, long-running local contest.

Submissions to the contest will be accepted from January 2 – March 4 of 2024. The entries will be judged by professionals in the fields of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, with a monetary prize for the top three entries in each category. The winning short fiction, short non-fiction, and poem, will be celebrated on the Authors of the Flathead website and social media, and distributed to local media outlets. In addition, the winning entry in each category will be considered for publication by the Whitefish Review. Judges have the right to determine no submission is worthy of award.

The deadline for submission is Monday, March 4, 2024. Winners will be announced in April.

Submissions should be postmarked before midnight, Friday, March 1, and snail-mailed to:
