President's Letter - Jan 31

Greetings Authors!

We're in our typical end-of-January thaw that comes around Whitefish Carnival time. I hope you are enjoying a break in the cold weather.

If you haven't already, please renew your membership for 2024 on the Authors website. The cost is now $60 for the year. If you need some financial assistance, please reach out directly to me, with a brief email, no need to go into great detail, just a simple request.

We had our first meeting with the new board on Sunday and we have a great team with a lot of business acumen and creative ideas. We'll have updates to the Board link on the website soon.

The Flathead River Writers Conference is coming together and I hope to have the full lineup for you in our next newsletter. The dates: Montana-born, now based in Chicago, author/editor Kier Graff - will lead our 4.5-hour workshop October 4. The full conference is October5/6, 2024 and will feature two venues often running at the same time. Debra Magpie Earling will be our keynote and featured speaker. Her novel, The Lost Journals of Sacajawea, is receiving national acclaim. I've read it and it's a great book! Agent Joanna MacKenzie will be with us -'m excited!

Thursday, Feb 8 - Guest Speaker TBA. 6:00 pm, A-1 Sewing& Vacuum, Kalispell.

Thursday, Feb 15 - Open Readings. 6:00 pm, A-1 Sewing & Vacuum,Kalispell. In person only. Bring up to six pages to share with the group. Ask for and get general or specific feedback from the group. Reading priorities
go to paid-up members first and others when time permits.

Feb 16 - 18, FlatHead Lake International Cinemafest in Polson.

Thursday, February 22 - MT Screenwriting Group TBA- Guest speaker or book discussion -- check the AotF meeting schedule page for details.

Saturday February 24th, 3:00-5:00, Kalispell CoffeeTraders, Kathy Dunnehoff. Book signing with Shelby Van Pelt, The NY Times bestselling author of "Remarkably Bright Creatures!"
