Dear Authors of the Flathead Members and Friends,
If you haven’t already, register for the conference October 1 & 2. A few seats are also available for Val Mathews’ Friday workshop Making Your Writing Pop and for fifteen-minute appointments with her. I attended her workshop at the Pacific Northwest Writers Conference a few years ago and she’s fabulous!
Thursday meetings continue through the summer as we polish our writing for the conference.
The full schedule is on the Authors website.
First Thursdays have been packed with great teaching and discussion from Kathy Dunnehoff.
Second Thursday organizer Susan Purvis is booking brilliant presenters from all over the
country. Our August 11 guest is Nate Schweber, author of THIS AMERICA OF OURS: Bernard and Avis DeVoto and the Forgotten Fight to Save the Wild. (Mariner, 2022). His bio is on the website. This will be a Zoom event.
Third Thursdays Open Readings and are led by Fran Tabor, Dixon Rice, Glenn Schiffman, and others. Present your work and receive instant feedback.
Barbara Schiffman’s screenwriting group on fourth Thursdays are polishing their scripts ahead of the conference.
A tip: For those of us who write short forms, I’m finding Instagram to be a valuable tool. If you set up an account and follow Whitefish Review, you’ll be encouraged to link with a plethora of journals and receive their submission calls. Authors member Connie Cermak will present two workshops at the conference on how to market through Instagram.
The Authors of the Flathead Annual Potluck Picnic will be Thursday, September 15, from 4:00 – 8:00 at the Lawrence Park Pavilion in Kalispell. Bring a dish to share. Authors is also moving toward a sustainable future so please bring your own plate, cup, and utensils so we don’t have to throw much away when we’re done.
