Holiday Greetings from the President
2021 is a year to remember for many reasons. For me,this was my final year as President of the group after many years in leadership positions. We now have new officers with great skills to continue supporting our motto of Writers Helping Writers.
Any volunteer group needs cohesive members to share their skills. Be sure to help your new officers and board members with the many support positions. We will need a Media Wrangler to help with posting weekly gatherings, a Social Wrangler with planning events and organizing the annual summer picnic, and many jobs related to conference planning in the fall. Each year the club sponsors a high school writing contest and offers cash awards to the winners. We will need a coordinator and volunteer judges to help with submissions to determine winners to present awards before the end of the school year in 2022.
New members have shown interest in the Open Reading third Thursday meetings. I encourage writers to attend these sessions and help each other with critiques. Being a member of an ongoing critique group is key to producing your best manuscript. These meetings offer a place to share your work and get feedback for improvement.
The Authors of the Flathead began more than thirty years ago and leaves this year strong with many planned programs and a successful first-time virtual presentation of the annual Flathead River Writers Conference. Craig Naylor, your new president, is also conference coordinator. He has already confirmed some prominent presenters for the conference scheduled to be in-person if the pandemic allows. Save the dates 2022: September30 (Friday workshop), October 1 & 2 (weekend conference)
Many of our members have hidden out from the pandemic, accomplished goals, finished first drafts, and published books. If you have a new book and would like it featured on our website for member books, be sure to forward your jpg cover image with the link for purchase to the Webmaster. (Club News) You can pay your dues for 2022 online on this website.
I recently completed the first draft of a novel concept that has haunted me for years. It felt great to finally have the storyline finalized. I hope 2022 will be a productive year for all of you.
Welcome to all the new members.
Happy New Year to all.
